A bit about me

I’m David, a former Senior WHS Consultant and current Organisational Coach with a diverse background. I have worked in client management, business improvement, sharp-end operations, safety management systems, and as a safety leader for small and large organisations. My experience in these areas has given me an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in safety management, as well as safety leadership!

I am particularly focused on the "New View" methodologies of safety. This approach not only addresses ‘what could go wrong’, but it also focuses on identifying and improving ‘what goes right’ through constant curiosity and building in the capacity to absorb human error – of which we will never be free from! This humanistic and systems-based approach is, I believe, the most effective way to create a safe workplace without the negative side-effects that can be associated with more ‘control & command’ and ‘compliance only’ styles of safety management and leadership.

"Safety is not the absence of events; safety is the presence of capacity"

- Todd Conklin

I am a certified OSH Practitioner and certified Organisational Coach with a passion for helping people develop greater curiosity, challenge limiting belief structures, and identify new ways of achieving their organisational goals. I hold a number of professional qualifications and certifications as a consequence of my continuous personal and professional development within these fields.

I have worked as a Senior WHS Consultant and Coach at Barclayss in Perth, Western Australia and have been involved in multiple safety coaching projects for small and large clients. I have worked with many great individuals on the journey of helping businesses improve their safety leadership capabilities – and by default, their safety performance.

In my spare time, I run the Safety Differently Book Club in Perth and enjoy fly fishing, motorbike riding, mountain biking, and camping.
